I have lived in the Provo/Orem area for over 30 years. I came here to go to BYU and received a bachelor degree in Political Science and completed all the additional coursework for the Business Administration Minor. I have spent my professional career primarily in the health care and hospitality industry. I was the Director of Operations for a local Hotel Management Company for over 10 years. It’s time for local governments to put the well being of its Citizens front and center. The government works for the people, not the other way around. All governments must acknowledge their limitations as part of the Constitutional Republic we live in. Government, even local, “derives its just power from the consent of the governed” (Declaration of Independence). This means that assuming power not granted by the governed is usurpation and is unacceptable. I like the way Orem is divided into neighborhoods. Each neighborhood has an action plan and goals, which is a great idea. If you look closely at these you will find an awful lot of new laws and enforcement of those laws. Orem City can be a very hard task master for its Citizens, just ask anyone who is late on a utility bill. A certain harshness has been the mode of operation from Orem in the past. Let’s change this! We can honor and respect the Citizens of Orem by trying to serve and help them first. Then, if required we use more forceful methods. I believe we have a vast amount of untapped positive ideas and influence from those who live in and love Orem. Many would even contribute service to an organized and respectful city government. Let’s encourage that!
Wade Sewell did not attend the Meet the Candidates city event.
Wade Sewell has not yet submitted his vision for Orem quote
We surveyed hundreds of Orem voters who attended cottage meetings, watched video interviews, or met with candidates and asked them questions. We asked "What are your impressions of (candidate name) (positive and/or negative). Would you vote for him/her? Why or why not?
Here are voter responses:
