Introduction by Orem City

385-447-0873 | wsewell6@gmail.com

I have lived in the Provo/Orem area for over 30 years. I came here to go to BYU and received a bachelor degree in Political Science and completed all the additional coursework for the Business  Administration Minor. I have spent my professional career primarily in the health care and hospitality industry.  I was the Director of Operations for a local Hotel Management Company for over 10 years. It’s time for local governments to put the well being of its Citizens front and center. The government works for the people, not the other way around. All governments must acknowledge their limitations as part of the Constitutional Republic we live in. Government, even local, “derives its just power from the consent of the governed” (Declaration of Independence). This means that assuming power not granted by the governed is usurpation and is unacceptable. I like the way Orem is divided into neighborhoods. Each neighborhood has an action plan and goals, which is a great idea. If you look closely at these you will find an awful lot of new laws and enforcement of those laws.  Orem City can be a very hard task master for its Citizens, just ask anyone who is late on a utility bill.  A certain harshness has been the mode of operation from Orem in the past. Let’s change this!  We can honor and respect the Citizens of Orem by trying to serve and help them first. Then, if required we use more forceful methods. I believe we have a vast amount of untapped positive ideas and influence from those who live in and love Orem. Many would even contribute service to an organized and respectful city government.  Let’s encourage that!

Candidate's Vision for Orem (for the next 10 years)

Wade Sewell has not yet submitted his vision for Orem quote

What do Orem Voters say about this Candidate?

We surveyed hundreds of Orem voters who attended cottage meetings, watched video interviews, or met with candidates and asked them questions. We asked "What are your impressions of (candidate name) (positive and/or negative). Would you vote for him/her? Why or why not?

Here are voter responses:

  • Not electable (Anon)
  • Strong conservative, good ideas for the city, would vote for him.  (Anon)
  • He thinks deeply about issues and has a hard time coming to decisions and a course of action. He is not City Council material yet. (M.Low)
  • Negative. He doesn't seem informed enough or able to communicate. (Anon)
  • I know little about Wade. I was neither impressed nor disappointed with his video. Until I get the opportunity to meet with him in some way, I'm completely undecided. Not likely to vote for a face without any substance, so NOT YET. (Bob Muench)
  • Seemed like a nice man with lots of accounting background. He needs to be more aware of what UTOPIA did to the city of Orem and why that debt will be with us until most of us are dead and gone. (D.G.)
  • He said he was in favor of BRT. Won't vote for him. (S.W.)
  • He wasn't able to make it to the event on time (but he might have sat by me at the end?) Will watch his interview and learn more. (James Eagar)
  • Not a real candidate. (Anon)
  • Don’t know (Anon)
  • No opinion yet (Anon)
  • Not at my meeting (Anon)
  • I know nothing about this candidate because he has not shown up for events, or at least the three I have attended. Show me that he is serious. (Anon)
  • Wade is a no-nonsense, common sense business man with broad perspective on city management. With a degree from BYU in political science and a career as a business manager, Wade has always felt a duty to run for City Council. He knows how to find win-win situations. I would vote for him 8th. (David Busath)
  • I like Wade but he hasn't be campaigning very much. I cannot vote for Wade. (S.R.W.)
  • Negative. No. He is weak and doesn't seem very professional. I don't think he has a chance. (Anon)
  • Not impressed. (Anon)
  • Wade's stands are not well formed or specific for various issues.  This is his first campaign and that could explain it. (G.C.D.)
  • I don't know Wade and see other candidates I'm more interested in. (Anon)
  • It was hard to watch the video, I found myself not in agreement with him on many questions. (Anon)
  • I need to know more about him (J. Carmen)
  • Wade is very passionate and real. It's clear he cares and would like to help the city to be even better than it is now. He did seem to like the idea of the BRT down State Street, and that's one main reason he isn't one I will vote for.  (Anon)
  • Wade has good ideas and I think he would do a great job.  He did not do a video with the city of Orem so I will not vote for him.  I think he needs to do that to show he he is doing his due diligence. (Anon)
  • No, he's got some ideas but isn't quite ready to serve (Anon)
