Introduction by Orem City

801-420-1505 | chris.killpack@gmail.com

Millard Fuller, the founder and former president of Habitat for Humanity International, said, “For a community to be whole and healthy, it must be based on people’s love and concern for each other.” Orem is not a stop on a journey for me; Orem is the destination. During the past 62 years in this community I’ve raised six children, celebrated more than four decades of marriage, run my own business on State Street, and served my community in countless ways from the Boy Scouts of  America to ecclesiastical leadership. I even graduated from Orem High School. Go Tigers! For me, Orem is home. As a city council member my focus will be simple: First, create relationships of trust and work together; second, promote public dialogue and community input; third, support Orem City’s employees;  fourth, build our community through service. My name is Chris Killpack and I ask for your support.

Candidate's Vision for Orem (for the next 10 years)

Chris Killpack did not submit anything about his vision for Orem.

What do Orem Voters say about this Candidate?

We surveyed hundreds of Orem voters who attended cottage meetings, watched video interviews, or met with candidates and asked them questions. We asked "What are your impressions of (candidate name) (positive and/or negative). Would you vote for him/her? Why or why not?

Here are voter responses:

  • No. (Anon)
  • Rude and arrogant  (Anon)
  • A good man. But supported by money and high density interests. (M.Low)
  • Negative. No, he won't even do an interview.  (Anon)
  • Chris not being willing to do an interview is all I need to know about him. (T.Cook)
  • I have not met Chris yet. I hope to do so soon.  I won't vote for an unknown factor, so NOT YET, but I have a very open mind on this. (Bob Muench)
  • I know him, but cannot understand why he is using the "Biden approach" to running or office. I hope he doesn't believe that being President of the Orem Utah Mission is all he needs. I could not vote for him even though he is a very nice man. (D.G.)
  • Who? Won't meet with anybody. Won't ever vote for him. (S.W.)
  • I was disappointed that Chris brought up his experience as an ecclesiastical leader during his introduction. I have also served in ecclesiastical leadership positions within our shared faith. Using this appeal feels very inappropriate, especially with the emphasis placed by our faith on not using that faith to represent political ideology. In addition he went well over time and ignored the continued beep indicating her should conclude. The statements made during that time were vague platitudes of no meaningful substance. It felt like he did not respect other people's time with that action. Also, not being willing to sit down for an interview tells me a lot about him. The interviews I have watched seem very general and not directed at biasing people based on some specific divisive issues. He seems to be caught up significantly in one of those groups. (James Eagar)
  • His answers are given to him. (Anon)
  • He had no knowledge on most issues and had to be pressed to get his opinion on things. (Anon)
  • I was surprised by talking with Chris that he was more open than I thought he would be. He seemed well studied, bright and polite in our conversation. I would like to know more about his profession and skills. His speech in the library hall seemed a bit defensive, rather than just presenting his side of himself. I would also like to know why is he running and how becoming a city council member would fit into his schedule. (Anon)
  • Chris is well-respected, honorable, and committed to keeping Orem healthy for family life. He has legacy property on State St and wants improvements, support, and beautification of the City. However, he has not been engaged much in campaigning that I have seen, and seems strongly connected to sponsors with ties to developers. I don't feel comfortable with his associations and don't trust that he would be independent in his judgements. I think he could be a fine city councilor, but not what Orem needs right now. I would vote for him 11th. (David Busath)
  • Chris does not speak in public very well. I find him a bit arrogant. He says he was given an impression of Stand For Orem and decided not to talk to them because of things he was told. I believe it is a character flaw to then dismiss that group and not even try to find out for himself who the group is or what they believe. If he is supposed to be a community council member for Orem, he needs to be able to talk to any one, whether they agree or not. I can not vote for Chris. (S.R.W.)
  • Negative. No, because he wouldn't agree to be interviewed. I can't trust him because he isn't willing to say how he truly feels about the current administration. He seems proud and narcissistic, and is for the urbanization of Orem. He owns property on State Street in Orem and would want to vote for all the things I disagree with. (High rise, high density apartments, widening of current roads, and rapid transit lines.)  (Anon)
  • I cannot vote for Chris Killpack because he has not been open with the public. He callously refused to even interview with the Stand for Orem PAC.  He stated at the City's Meet the Candidates night that on State Street he only owns the property (one acre) on which his boyhood home sits. The fact is, he has other properties listed under CSK, LLC that he did not divulge.  I would also not vote for him because he was selected and endorsed by the Stronger Orem, PAC, a group that is led by an individual that is connected at the hip to the web of state politics through the governor's office, supports growth, big business, high rise housing and UTA (mass transit).  That pretty much says who Chris will answer to! (Anon)
  • He may to too busy to actually run.  I've seen his signs but know little of his stands on the issues. (G.C.D.)
  • Negative, As this picture shows, Chris is not engaging with the public and is hoping to coast to a win. (Anon)
  • Chris Killpack is a wonderful man, but I wish I knew his views of Orem moving on…don’t know what he is for or against (Anon)
  • Talked the usual talking points. I didn't feel comfortable with his answers. No vote (J. Carmen)
  • Not impressed. He's fairly aloof and seems prideful. He should withdraw if he is too busy to meet with voters or answer questions. He doesn't have time to be a city council member if he is too busy to interact with voters. Definite No.  (Anon)
  • Not voting for if he is unwilling to interview. (Anon)
  • Would not vote for him as he is pro Alpine School district.  (Anon)
  • No, I wouldn't vote for him.  He isn't making himself available to the voters and seems to think he can get elected based on his church resume alone--I'd like to know where he stands on the issues in Orem. (Anon)
